Murphy Roche
Ceili Bands and performance groups
Senior and Junior Murphy Roche bands are made up of members of our club.
In fact to participate in our band activities, or other club sponsored
performances, you must be a member. Our bands perform at festivals, concerts, and competitions
throughout Illinois particularly during the summer months. Our Junior bands
have even competed in Ireland at the world title level. We
are predominantly a Ceili band but thanks to the wonderful singing talents
of several of our members we are able to incorporate songs and ballads
into our performances. We also feature duos and trios
making for a very diverse and interesting stage performance that has won
us much critical acclaim and was even the idea behind our second CD 'Twos
and Threes'. To top it all off we even have step dancers! |

In 2002 our junior band, under the
direction of Kell Chole, qualified to compete in the All-Ireland Fleadh
Cheoil. As a band they competed in two competitions placing fourth in
Groupa Cheoil.

Our
Junior bands give students from our music school an opportunity to play
together, helping them mature both as musicians and as individuals, while
working towards a goal and having fun with music. Many of our junior
members are such accomplished musicians that they are also members of our senior
band. Our senior band performances often include guest appearances by our
junior band. |

Our
club also provides musical entertainment, from soloists to small
groups of any size, for private parties and functions. Our members have
played at birthdays, weddings, picnics, Christmas and, of course, Saint Patrick's
day celebrations. You will even find some of our members playing in some of
your favorite bands at the Irish pubs and Celtic festivals.
