Musicians from Murphy Roche volunteer their time and talent throughout the year to bring traditional Irish music to our communities.
Ensembles appear at cultural events, festivals, and social gatherings for Irish organizations. One special Irish event is the ceili dance.
("Ceili" is pronounced "cay-lee.") At a ceili, people of all ages can gather to enjoy dancing to traditional Irish music. Dances are done
as couples or in larger groups. Ceili dances can be quickly learned and enjoyed by beginners dancing alongside seasoned dancers. The
atmosphere is lively and warm.
Our senior ceili band is a group of adult musicians who provide musical energy for ceili dances, set dancing, and dance workshops.
Young Murphy Roche musicians often join the adults, adding their own “lift” to help make the music special. The Murphy Roche Ceili
Band has regularly appeared at ceili dances and workshops at such venues as Chicago Gaelic Park and the University of Chicago Folk Festival.
Please call or e-mail us if you would like our Ceili band to appear at your next dance or event. We would enjoy talking with you!
